Appearance

Personality

Despite their gloomy appearance and monotone speech, they are actually amiable and expressive when you get them talking. They like traditional aesthetics but dislike general conservatism and performative politeness. Their biggest flaw is avoidance. It's obvious that they like the morbid and macabre, but they are romantic at heart who is easily moved by love stories and considers bonds with other people the most important thing (they just don't discriminate between living and dead people).

Habits

Often wears wafuku (traditional Japanese clothing), keeps things in sleeves; favorite colors are black, red, and dark gray. Drinks a lot of tea. Has a dark sense of humor. Night owl. Pescatarian. They are used to traveling and have a minimalist lifestyle. They often use the first person pronouns "ware" or "wagahai," which are more literary and can be seen as arrogant (when around strangers, they usually use 'boku').

• Conversing with Ghosts: They can hear and see ghosts clearly and are able to have conversations with them. This allows them to convince ghosts to pass one peacefully. While most people involved with the supernatural can hear ghosts and talk "at them," Junna is able to capture the attention of ghosts so they can have a two way conversation. While certain spirit mediums (particularly itako) can also do this, Junna is able to do it without any type of aid, ritual, or even need to concentrate.
• Absorption: They can absorb the spirits of the dead or curses and use the resentful negative energy as their own. After developing this technique, they can also use the powers of the spirits they absorb. After absorbing spirits, Junna performs a short ritual at a Buddhist altar in order to pacify the spirits so they can be assimilated peacefully and move on (if not, Junna runs the risk of burning out the spirits completely). While the stigma of their ability to converse with ghosts has weakened in present day, their absorption ability is generally met with disgust and disapproval by the supernatural community at large.
• Familiars: spirits of goldfish and koi. Supposedly, some of these spirits have swam up the Sanzu River and become ghost dragons. At the start of Modern Kaidan Romance, they have six goldfish ghosts: two wakin, one black telescope, a veiltail, a comet, and a ranchu. They usually pick their familiars from sickly fish in pet stores, abandoned koi ponds, or goldfish scooping booths at festivals.
• Gates: Junna can make gates/enter the spirit realm through the Sanzu Riverbanks, which most living humans, even powerful exorcists, can't tolerate (breathing the air there is toxic). While making a gate usually requires a great amount of time, effort, and the correct circumstances to enhance the powers of the one opening it, as long as they have enough energy, Junna can open a gate to the Sanzu river anywhere at any time.
• Spirit Weapon: they can manifest a massive oni club they obtained by defeating (several) oni during a trip to Yomi in preparation for Ibuki's revival. Covered in jagged chunks of unrefined metal and bone, it's unavoidably messy and although it's been charmed to weigh less, it's still difficult for Junna to wield because of its size and is only used as a last resort.
• Talismans and Charms: Junna makes their own paper talismans for banishing weak curses and uncooperative ghosts. They also make talismans they can sew into their clothes they can use to muffle sound, jump higher, and absorb more force from physical blows.

• Character influences include Wei Wuxian (The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation), Furude Rika (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni), Shinei Nouzen (86), Geto Suguru (Jujutsu Kaisen), Ichihara Yuuko (xxxHOLic).
• Their surname is often mispronounced "Chauo" or "Chagyo."
• Their birthname is "Jun" with the kanji 潤 ("wet; be watered; profit by; receive benefits; favor; charm; steep")(a fitting name for go with "tea fish")
• Like the stereotypical Tokyoite, they say "chou ukeru" instead of actually laughing when they find something funny.
• Counts as "Edokko," being born in Tokyo to families who have lived in Tokyo for several generations; their surname comes from a great grandfather who left the family business of selling tea and chased his dreams of being a poet (Sagyo was his penname). Before that, they were part of a Kurosawa family.
